McKenna Townsend supports Condor Ferries through crisis and issues management

The brief - Condor Liberation

McKenna Townsend has worked with Condor Ferries for over five years – supporting the company through media relations, crisis and issues management and events. In August 2014, Condor Ferries purchased a new state-of-the-art high speed ferry, Condor Liberation to operate on the Channel Islands to UK route. McKenna Townsend was tasked with driving coverage and building momentum ahead of the ferry’s first sailing in March 2015 by implementing a comprehensive PR programme.

We created a calendar of news to share throughout the eight month period, creating proactive news hooks as well as sharing updates on the progress of Condor Liberation’s introduction to service.

Activity included:

  • Drafting and issuing a series of 14 press releases to regional, national and trade media to keep key press targets updated on the new introduction to the fleet
  • Working with suppliers to issue joint-partner press releases and features, showcasing the work on Condor Liberation, including the fit-out completed by Trimline
  • Facilitating photocall opportunities for key media to capture photography of Condor Liberation during her introduction to service, including her arrival into the UK from the Philippines and name painting

  • Organising and facilitating a media preview day onboard Condor Liberation for key UK and Channel Islands press to see the fit-out works in progress and speak to senior representatives of the Condor Ferries team
  • Creating a mini event in Baiter Park in Poole to mark Condor Liberation’s inaugural sailing in March, inviting local residents, school children and ferry fans to wave the ferry off as she sailed through Poole Harbour
  • Organising and facilitating key media interviews for senior members of the Condor team on the morning of Condor Liberation’s first sailing
  • Inviting key regional media to travel onboard Condor Liberation’s first ever sailing
  • Running a comprehensive familiarisation programme for key national, regional, trade and lifestyle and bloggers, to travel on Condor Liberation’s first sailing and spend a weekend in the Channel Islands
  • Providing corporate communications support throughout the campaign to support the senior team during a critical time for the business
