Following Sunseeker’s announcement in January that it’s a FIFA partner for the World Cup tournament, we were keen to promote Sunseeker’s involvement in the sporting event. Liaising with FIFA, we secured the opportunity of a special visit from the official FIFA mascot, Zabivaka, a Russian grey wolf who loves to play football.
With Zabivaka only having a short period of time while in Dorset, we executed a communications strategy around his visit ensuring he had a very busy schedule, not only promoting the World Cup, but Sunseeker’s Tier One sponsorship.
The energetic wolf, whose name translates as ‘the one who scores’, had a whistle stop tour of Bournemouth and Poole. We arranged for him to visit local schools to take part in PE lessons and assemblies, where he met with staff and pupils to educate them about the World Cup and the countries taking part.
He also put his football skills to the test at the Dolphin Shopping Centre, where we organised a penalty shootout and meet and greet. Children dressed in their football kits turned up in anticipation waiting to meet with the special guest himself.
Making the most of Zabivaka’s trip, we organised for him to lend a ‘paw’ and officially open this year’s Poole Harbour Boat Show alongside the Ocean Brothers. He attended the local boating event over the three days meeting with visitors and handing out flags.
We of course didn’t let Zabivaka fly back to Russia without arranging for him to go out on the water. He was spotted off shore in Poole Harbour taking the helm of a Sunseeker yacht as he put his sea legs to the test, navigating his way around Old Harry Rocks and Brownsea Island.
He also had time to visit the Sunseeker shipyard, meet with staff for photos, learn how to tie boating knots and even hopped in the 76 Yacht’s luxury hot tub for a quick soak to rest his paws before heading back to Russia.
