The McKenna Townsend team made a HUGE announcement for the National Marine Aquarium (NMA) this week, resulting in a wave of broadcast, national, regional and online media coverage.
We revealed that Olympic Sailor, Sir Ben Ainslie and his wife Lady Ainslie have been appointed as Ocean Ambassadors for the education and marine conservation charity. Ben and Georgie join the NMA in its mission to connect young people and their families with the ocean and to promote pro-ocean behaviour, as well as support getting ocean topics added to the national curriculum.
A series of interviews were lined up with key media while Ben and Georgie visited the NMA, where they saw the NMA’s Discovery and Learning team in action through its School Outreach programme, both in the Aquarium and at a local school in Plymouth. Interviews were secured with a variety of broadcast, national and regional media, including a live interview with Good Morning Britain during a prime-time spot with Piers Morgan, The Daily Telegraph, Press Association, tes, BBC Spotlight and ITV West Country.
More than 250 pieces of coverage were generated within 24 hours of the story going live, resulting in more than 15 million opportunities to see and hear about the announcement, and an advertising value equivalent of over £750,000 – and there’s even more coverage expected over the coming weeks!
Needless to say, the team is thrilled with the fantastic results and hopes the widespread exposure will help to support the charity raise much needed funds to continues its education and marine conservation research programmes.
