Winchester Science Centre & Planetarium is a unique and interactive learning centre, home to more than 100 hands-on science exhibits and the UK’s largest standalone planetarium cinema. McKenna Townsend was appointed to drive awareness and footfall to the attraction, and promote it as a ‘go-to’ destination in peak school holiday periods.
Implement a programme of familiarisation visits for key media, to allow journalists to attend with their families and experience the Science Centre first-hand, including the exhibits as well as stand-out planetarium shows.
Working with local partners, such as Visit Winchester, national media were also targeted to set-up weekend-long breaks to Winchester and the South Coast.
Since working with the Winchester Science Centre in early 2016, McKenna Townsend has set-up a series of journalist familiarisation visits for national, regional and lifestyle media, including The Guardian, Woman’s Own, Blackmore Vale Magazine, Southern Daily Echo and What’s Good To Do. The results – detailed review articles about the Centre’s offering, which to date has created more than 300,000 opportunities to see.
Many journalists also took to social media to share their thoughts and photos from their visits.
